Abstract

Social media nowadays has transformed how people express their feelings and thoughts.Researchers have proved that our online discourses or even a single profile tells a story. However, few studies paid attention to discursive features on those contexts and many of those studies were conducted in black-box approaches. In fact, it matters as researchers can generate insights from those feature interpretations and therefore understand human behaviors online. To further contribute to this field, I investigated people’s frequent words used, sentence length, vocabulary size, and topics they would like to discuss online. This study was designed to narrow down the scope to the online community and especially targeted on posts and comments from Reddit’s MBTI groups, as my goal is to discover discursive patterns among people with similar personality types. Myers–Briggs Type 16 Indicators(MBTI) is a well-known personality assessment, which has been popular since 1980s. Results provided strong supports that discursive patterns from people’s online communication can be linked to their underlying personalities and most of people who share similar personality types have comparable traits in contexts.
