Abstract

Presidential Election Dynamics: Electoral Theory and Empirical Evidence is a comprehensive, in-depth study of presidential campaigns. The focus is on the actors involved in presidential campaigns including not only the candidates themselves but also the media and the campaign consultancy profession. There is an emphasis on the 1988 presidential election between Vice President George Bush and Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis. The role of all of these actors is examined in the context of their impact on the fragile nature of democracy.
