Abstract

Evan Cook interviews his grandparents, Judy and Ron Cook, about the energy transitions they have witnessed in their lifetimes. Judy discusses the merits of solar energy over oil, the malfeasance of energy corporations and the California power utility PG&E, waste, pollution, the individual responsibility for saving energy, and the gendered nature of consumption. Ron discusses the invisibility of energy, early solar energy, coal mining and its perils, oil spills, the risks of nuclear energy, and the ecological degradation facing future generations.
