Abstract

This paper investigates market citizenship as a framework for refugees and newcomers in accessing the rights of citizenship. In a first part, it examines relevant theories of citizenship to situate market citizenship. Next, it outlines the parameters of market citizenship and its applicability to the case of refugees in claiming rights through the US resettlement system. Finally, it moves on to identify weaknesses in the framework and posit some alternative strategies.
