Abstract
This interview between Domingo A. Cortinez and his father, Domingo E. Cortinez, explores energy transitions from mid-20th century Argentina to present-day Miami, Florida. It highlights the drastic changes in energy use after the 1944 earthquake in San Juan, which spurred the shift from wood and charcoal to electricity for household needs. The construction of the Ullum dam further revolutionized energy access and economic development in San Juan. Comparing his upbringing in Argentina to current energy practices in Miami as a construction worker, Domingo E. reflects on the increasing emphasis on energy efficiency regulations in the U.S. versus the slower adoption of such measures in Argentina. He also discusses how political regimes and economic instability affected Argentina's energy infrastructure, with a focus on clean energy for the future.
