Abstract
Janaya Harris interviews Patrick Davis about his experiences with energy living in Toledo and Columbus, Ohio. Davis remembers growing up in a household that used gas for heating and cooking and did not have air conditioning. He also recalls witnessing Toledo's use of coal-powered electricity and nuclear energy, supplied by a nearby power station. Davis describes being aware of nuclear disasters at the time, but only realizing the extent of the danger in hindsight. Davis also discusses energy usage now, in Columbus, where he lives in a house that uses electricity, not gas, and where there is a solar field nearby. He reflects on his concerns about the environment, problems with consumerism, and feelings of hopelessness, along with his experience as a former vegetarian and his awareness of industrial food production. Davis also recalls coming into political awareness through encounters with the punk scene as a teenager.
