Abstract

Lucas Zubillaga Maharg interviews his grandfather, Ignacio María Zubillaga Zubimendi, about his career in the metal recycling and coal industries, labor relations, technological advancements in coal mining, energy transitions under the Franco regime, and his perspective on the future of energy in Spain. Zubimendi begins by discussing his experience working as a manager in e-waste recycling and in the mining industry. He reflects on strikes, his relationship with the workers, and the importance of communication with the miners' unions. Zubimendi also discusses changes in the coal industry, such as the shift from underground coal mining to open-pit mining, and the aftermath of coal mine closures. He discusses the energy industry in Spain during and after the Franco regime, along with the transition from coal to hydroelectric power.
