An Artist's Guide to Reversibly Color Changing Paints and Pigments

  • 1. University of Chicago

Description

Art and science create the need for one another, and help each other to evolve further: art producing the questions and science paving the way for new avenues of art. This research is concerned with the latest of such scientific translations of art into the practice of art, its current state of affairs, mechanisms of function and place in contemporary media. It aims to serve as a guide for the artist, who is interested in understanding and then cultivating and exploiting the properties of color changing paints and pigments. The information found in this research is intended to serve as a starting point for the artist who hasn't until now been acquainted with these materials, and as a technical guide for the artist that is currently practicing with them, and as an inspiration for the artist that is planning to work with them in the future.
