School Climate and Academic Performance of LGBTQ Youth: A Causal Medication Analysis

This research delves into the impact of school climate on absenteeism and academic performance among LGBTQ students, with a focus on the causal mediating effect. Utilizing data from the California Healthy Kids Survey, the research employs stepwise regression and multiple mediation analyses to explore how school climate influences these outcomes. The findings reveal that a positive school climate can significantly mitigate the harmful effects of victimization based on gender and sexual orientation promoting a stronger sense of belonging and support networks for students. The study emphasizes the importance of considering school climate as a multidimensional concept that encompasses safety, shared values, and effective teaching practices.
