The study focuses on political and civil rights, religious characteristics, and experiences with Islamic terrorism as potential attributes that shape states' approaches. The case studies include the Netherlands, Morocco, and France. The research design combines in-depth case studies with a surface-level assessment categorizing states based on their repatriation responses. The paper sheds light on the complexities of balancing national security concerns and the protection of human rights and highlights the need for more research on attributes contributing to disparities in FTF treatment. By analyzing the treatment of repatriated FTFs in different countries, this research aims to provide insights into the factors influencing their approaches and contributing to developing consistent standards. Although not groundbreaking, the findings of this research contribute to a better understanding of the factors influencing the treatment of repatriated FTFs. 000007141 542__ $$fCC BY-NC-ND 000007141 592__ $$aEmbargo added per student's request 08/09/2023 KV 000007141 690__ $$aSocial Sciences Division 000007141 691__ $$aCommittee on International Relations (CIR) 000007141 7001_ $$aKhatib, Yassmin $$uUniversity of Chicago 000007141 72012 $$aRobert Pape 000007141 72014 $$aManuel Cabal 000007141 8564_ $$9e5c7888b-b299-4118-97d7-f5c624575dca$$s338486$$uhttps://knowledge.uchicago.edu/record/7141/files/Final%20Draft%20of%20MA%20Thesis%20%282%29.pdf$$eEmbargo (2025-08-09) 000007141 908__ $$aI agree 000007141 909CO $$ooai:uchicago.tind.io:7141$$pGLOBAL_SET$$pTheses 000007141 950__ $$aoverwrite 000007141 983__ $$aThesis
